The reference photo is the foundation of your portrait — the more it captures your pet's true personality and expression, the more the painting will too. A few things that make a real difference:
Natural light whenever possible; avoid flash which flattens features
Sharp focus on the eyes and face especially — this is where personality lives
Eye-level shots that meet your pet where they are, not looking down at them
A relaxed, characteristic moment rather than a posed or startled expression
High-resolution, full-sized images straight from your camera or phone
Multiple photos if you have them — variety helps
Each portrait includes a thoughtfully selected background that complements your pet's coloring, expression, and personality. As the artist, I consider contrast, value, temperature, and emotional tone to ensure the background enhances rather than competes with your pet.
Common palette choices include warm off-white, soft cream, light greige, charcoal gray, muted sage green, dusty blue, deep navy, warm clay, soft terracotta, and subtle blush—selected specifically for your pet.
Gallery-style floater frame (black or natural wood): +$60 (prices vary by size—$60 baseline for 8×8)

Thank you for considering me to create a portrait of your beloved companion. I would be honored to bring their unique personality to life through my work.
